Cosmetic Dentist
This is a discipline within dentistry in which the primary focus is the modification of appearance of a patient's oral cavity and surrounding structures, rather than the prevention and treatment of organic, structural, or functional oral disease. Through cosmetic dentistry, the appearance of the mouth can be altered to more closely match the patient's subjective concept of what is visually pleasing.

Oral Cancer Screening
Most people are surprised to learn that one American dies every hour from oral cancer; a death rate that has remained virtually unchanged for more than 40 years. In fact, recent statistics published by the American Cancer Society indicate that while the incidence and death rates for cancers overall has decreased, the incidence of oral cancer has increased by 5.5% and the death rate has increased by 1.5% Oral cancer is any cancerous tissue growth located in the mouth. It may arise as a primary lesion originating in any of the oral tissues, by metastasis from a distant site of origin, or by extension from a neighboring anatomic structure, such as the nasal cavity or the maxillary sinus. Oral cancers may originate in any of the tissues of the mouth, and may be of varied histologic types: adenocarcinoma derived from a major or minor salivary gland, lymphoma from tonsillar or other lymphoid tissue, or melanoma from the pigment producing cells of the oral mucosa. Far and away the most common oral cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, originating in the tissues that line the mouth and lips. Oral or mouth cancer most commonly involves the tissue of the tongue. It may also occur on the floor of the mouth, cheek lining, gingiva (gums), or palate (roof of the mouth). Most oral cancers look very similar under the microscope and are called squamous cell carcinoma. These are malignant and tend to spread rapidly.

Periodical Disease
Often undiagnosed, the majority of Americans suffer from some form of periodontal (gum) disease. Although mouth-borne, this disease affects organs throughout your body and is now being linked to such disorders as low birth-weight babies, heart attack, stroke and diabetes. Traditionally fought with painful “deep scaling,” the newest Laser Therapy technology at Burns Dentistry means you may never have to see scraping instruments again. Always on the leading edge of providing the finest dental care for their patients, Burns Dentistry recently became one of the few Valley dental offices to provide this state-of-the-art technology.

Digital Xrays
Recent studies indicate that radiation buildup throughout your lifetime could be more detrimental to your health than what was once believed. And common sense tells us that unless it is medically necessary, less radiation is better. Years ahead of most dental practices, Burns Dentistry switched to the much safer Digital X-Ray system as soon as the technology was available.
Digital radiography is currently practiced through the use of three commercial approaches, two of which also depend on phosphor screens. The first phosphor based approach is to digitize the signal from a video camera that is optically coupled to an x-ray image intensifier to provide an instant readout

Laser Teeth Whitening
If you want your teeth whitened fast, then Laser Teeth Whitening is for you. Using a laser and a whitening gel, this is an effective in-office bleaching system. The translucent bleaching gel is applied to the teeth and a laser light is used to activate the crystals to absorb the energy from the light and penetrate the teeth enamel to increase the lightening effect on the teeth. Most procedures can be done in about an hour. A key advantage is that only one visit is usually all it takes for a bright smile.

Invisalign
Invisalign is a new breakthrough technology that lets you have the smile you've always wanted — without the hassle of braces. It straightens your teeth with a series of clear, virtually invisible custom-molded aligners. This system has proven extremely effective. It’s like having Invisible Braces. Clinical studies have shown that your gum health can improve with the use of Invisalign during orthodontic treatment. Properly aligned teeth can help gums "fit" tighter around each tooth, which can lead to healthier gums. With Invisalign, you can brush and floss normally, which can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. As Invisalign invisibly straightens your teeth, it can also do amazing things for the health of your mouth.

Neuromuscular
This is a form of dentistry that focuses on correcting misalignment of the jaw at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). While conventional dentistry primarily concentrates on the teeth, gums, and bones, neuromuscular dentistry attempts to solve the root of the misalignment problem(s) by understanding the soft tissues, muscles, and nerves. Neuromuscular dentistry uses computer modeling of the patient's jaw movements and sonography of the TMJ to check for the extent of joint damage. Surface EMG's are used to verify pre-treatment conditions and if true rest is obtained by TENS. TENS (ultra-low frequency transcutaneous electrical neural stimulation) is used to locate "physiological rest" of the jaw muscles.

Veneers
In dentistry, a veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface. There are two types of material used in a veneer, composite and porcelain. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement such as Panavia. In contrast, a porcelain veneer may only be indirectly fabricated.
The advantages of using a veneer to restore a tooth are many. Very good aesthetics can be obtained, with minimal tooth preparation. Normally a reduction of around 0.5 mm is required for a porcelain veneer on a labial tooth surface. Composite veneers are becoming more popular as they are easy to repair, and porcelain veneers have a tendency to fracture. It can be very difficult to match the shade of an individual veneer to the remaining teeth, hence the tendency to place several veneers.

Smile Makeover & Dental Makeover
Aesthetic dentistry reaches beyond simple cosmetic dentistry practiced by general dentists. Aesthetic dentistry considers all aspects of the teeth, surrounding structures and facial features, blending facial form, function, contour and color. It takes a multilateral approach to achieve a healthy, "perfect smile," incorporating artistic talent with the latest advancements in technology, technique, and material. The aesthetic dentist must possess strong artistic and technical skills, experience, and extensive training far beyond that of general dentistry. However, to truly achieve the life-altering success most of his clients are seeking, he must listen. He needs to truly know his client before beginning work which has the power of altering both the psyche and persona of an individual.
